Land Ho!!

Finally, all the hard work over the past year has borne fruit. My MBA orientation kicked-off last week at The Paul Merage School of Business. The proceedings started with a note from Dean Andy Policano. An interesting, and perhaps the most awaited, figure that came up in his presentation was the full time job placement report. While most US B-schools are still finding it hard to place even 80% of their class, Merage has had 87.5% placements. It was a feel good factor for all of us sitting and listening to him in amazement.

The 2nd day started on a great note with the rope course challenge and loads of team building exercises. Climbing on the shaky tower that was actually swaying in strong gusts of wind was quite something - Gave me motion sickness for a while. Not to mention that I almost got roasted in the California heat. However, the evening was splendid - a beach barbeque party watching the almost painting like sunset.

The executive communication class was just awesome. Unlike other soft skill trainings that I have taken in the past, Mike Cannon's class actually made sure it makes you a better public speaker. His unique way of communicating and examples really stick with you. One of the interesting quotes from his class - "Entertainment is Education".

The coming week looks to be challenging. The "Intensive" for my section is starting tomorrow. From the looks of it, lasting the intensive is quite something. A week long course with 15 hours at school daily and filled with MBA jargon and case studies - after all they don't call it "The Intensive" for nothing.
